If I had a £ for every time I heard someone say “I don’t have time” I’d be a millionaire! (Wouldn’t that be awesome!)
Seriously – I am not sure if it’s the “in thing” to be “busy” and not have time? When last did you hear someone say “I’ve got lots of time”?? It’s become a bit like a competition to see who is the busiest!
I want be the one who isn’t busy –the one who has plenty of time!
Remember what I said to you before about TIME.TIME IS THE MOST PRECIOUS THING IN THE WORLD. ASK ANY PERSON WHO IS TERMINALLY ILL WHAT THEY WISH THEY HAD MORE OF….. TIME!
Money comes and goes.
Relationships come and go.
Clients come and go.
BUT TIME…..That just goes by and it never comes back to you!
Paul and I appreciate this so much.
For us – creating lots of money allows us to buy our time back.
What do I mean by that?
Well, the more money I make the more help I can get in my business to do the things I don’t really want to do and that takes up my time.
That means I get to do only the things I really enjoy AND have more time with my family and doing stuff I really want to do … like going up on the moors and being out in the camper van.
BUT…. Let’s say you’re not quite ready to get some help in your business?
How do you get your time back then? Here are a few steps that I’m teaching my VIP mentoring clients
No 1. STOP SAYING YOU DON’T HAVE TIME!
What you keep saying to yourself will become your reality! Change it to something like this:
I manage my time well and create time!
NO 2. TIME BLOCK YOUR TASKS
On a Sunday evening (that’s the best time for me. It may be a different day or time for you!) I write down all the things I want to do that week.
Then I group all “like” tasks together.
Any computer work goes together and that could be something like Emails, updating the website, paying bills etc
AND Time blocking things that are off the computer like writing lesson plans and studying.
Then you allocate some time in your diary to these blocks of tasks.
The other thing I do is that I only answer emails and messages at certain times of the day so I’m not checking every two minutes.
NO 3. GIVE YOURSELF A TIME LIMIT.
Ever heard of that saying “If you want something done give it to a busy person”.
If you have an unlimited time frame to do something – you’ll no doubt leave it until the last minute.
Give yourself a time frame.
Emails need to be completed in 20 minutes and set your timer.
Do that with all your tasks.
You’ll be amazed HOW MUCH TIME YOU WILL SAVE!
NO 4. CLOSE ALL YOUR TABS.(I am such a sucker for FB!).
The only way I know I’m going to get through all my bits is to have all the other tabs closed!
NO 5. EAT THAT FROG
Brian Tracy wrote a book EAT THAT FROG and the book is about doing those biggest yuckiest chores first in the day – and that way the rest of the day is a breeze!
NO 6. CREATE A DEFAULT DIARY.
Although I have my time blocked sessions I also have specific days that I do the same tasks on.
Mondays are my content writing day. I do my 8am Yoga session and 09:30 Pilates class and then I feel inspired throughout the rest of the day to write awesome valuable content for my websites, social media, and emails.
Tuesday is my heaviest day with 4 classes – so actually I don’t do any other work on a Tuesday.
Teaching and resting is all I do!
I also gift myself with a short morning yoga class and a Yin yoga in the afternoon to rest the body and I might also have a nap if I feel like it.
Serving my clients as a teacher is my top priority so I can only do that if I’m rested.
I plan the rest of my week like that too and it’s the same every week.
What that will do is start preparing your mind subconsciously the day before for your tasks ahead.
On Sundays, my mind is already thinking about what I’m going to be writing about on Mondays – as it’s a habit now.
You’ll be surprised at how much time you can actually start to save when you VALUE your time and stop taking it for granted AND GIVING IT AWAY !!!
PS AND STOP feeling the need to “be the busiest person” you know. There are no medals awaiting you!
This is how I have managed to run 3 businesses and STILL have lots of spare time for me and Paul and the doggies!
Don’t get me wrong these habits don’t happen overnight!
It’s taken me 6 years to test and tweak to find what works for me and my own natural flow so stick with it. Once you crack it you’ll create so much more time in your life.
Have you got any time-saving hacks that you want to share??
I’m always up for creating more time!
Lots of love
