3 Tips to overcome your Fears of Being on Social Media

We’ve all been there.

Maybe you’ve got a video you want to post or you’ve written some content, BUT when it comes to hitting that POST button you freak out and go and vacuum!  (it has to be done right!) 🧹

OR perhaps you were about to share an offer you’re running and all of a sudden you feel the urge to go and scrape the mold off the tiles in the bathroom!  (it has to be done right!)

This is completely normal 👈

Especially if you’re new to social media because it’s not something you’ve used in the past.

I do get it.

➡️ My hair isn’t right.

➡️ I’ve got no make-up.

➡️ My teeth are skewed.

➡️ And there’s always some excuse.

🤜  I know cause these are all my excuses!

Here’s a truth bomb and it is said with love ❣️

If you want to grow a successful Pilates or yoga business…..

Currently, there are 2.936 BILLION users on FB.

401.5 million are between 35-44 years of age

237.0 million are between 45-54 years of age

145.4 million are between 55-64 years of age

114.1 million are above 65

Can you see why you really need to be on social media, and this is only FB stats!

The whole world is on social media and IT IS one of the cheapest and easiest ways to get new clients and grow your audience.

I know what is stopping you.

❌ It’s the fear of judgment.

❌ It’s the fear of putting yourself out there.

❌ What will they think?

❌ What if I get nasty comments?

❌ What if, what if, what if?

Here’s another truth bomb……💣

It’s actually REALLY hard to get lots of people to see your posts and in fact, Facebook actually wants you to pay in order to get your content out to the world so the chances are, especially in the beginning, is that it will only be your friends and family that see your posts.

Here are my 3 Top Tips to overcoming your fear I’ll be referring to FB but this goes for ALL social media.

  1.  Focus on your goal.

Why is it so important to you to grow your business?

When you focus on something outside of your fear, it’ll give you encouragement to press that post button and if it doesn’t…..

Guess what … your WHY isn’t strong enough or important enough so I would revisit that.

It needs to be that your desire for growing your business is stronger than the short term discomfort of pressing the post button.

  1.  Accept that some people are TROLLS.

They live their life tapping away on the keyboard and they don’t care who they upset or how their nastiness impacts others.

AND it has absolutely nothing to do with YOU.

Often when you have a troll and it’s upset you – it means that there’s a part of you that believes what the troll says.

Here’s an example.

So I’ve got blonde hair.

If a troll turned to me and said you have black hair

I’d shrug my shoulders and laugh because I don’t have black hair!  (I know a really simple example)

But do you get what I mean?   Their comment doesn’t trigger me, because I honestly don’t believe what they say and I KNOW there is no element of truth to their comment.

Now, what if they said  You’re a crap pilates/yoga teacher?

I”d sit and think about it and I’d look for evidence to either prove or disprove their comment.

✔️ I’d think well I know I am not everyone’s cup of tea, but I do have over 100 clients.

✔️ I’ve helped over 1000 since I started teaching

✔️ I have a successful studio and

✔️ I offer Pilates and Yoga teacher training

So would I be able to do this if I was a crap teacher?

NO, i wouldn’t and I have disproved what the troll said.

Therefore I wouldn’t take note of the troll.

Sometimes you need to process what they say in order to realize there’s no truth in it, and if you believe there is truth in it then that’s a sign that there’s something for you to work on, and in that case….

Thank the troll for their insight!!!    (yes I know that’s quite a hard one!)

It really is a win-win situation. 🕺 🤸‍♂️

And then you can block them! 😂  and you can delete the comment or hide the comment so only they can see it.

No 3.   The more you do it the easier it gets!!!!

So whether it’s videos or written content.  And like anything else in the world,  the more you do it the easier it gets!

Remember when you started driving, how hard it was?  Now I bet you don’t even think about it!

Give yourself a challenge and if you can find an accountability buddy, perhaps someone else who has the same fear that will help you to stay on track and give you that nudge you need to take action.

Commit to putting content on FB every day for a month or doing a live video every day for a month.  (SCARY!! I KNOW, but you can do it!) 😩

You will soon overcome those initial jitterbugs and you’ll see that actually lots of people out there want to support you and will high five you! 🥳

Give it a go!!!

And let me know how it goes!

And remember:

Everything you want and dream of is outside of your comfort zone – so if you REALLY want it,  get used to stepping out of it!

Lots of love
